You can stop JAVA from automatically running by unchecking it under startup
in msconfig

If anyone needs Java, you can use WE4Java to unload jqs.exe. I don't know
how to stop it from running permanently, however. In Control Panel, open
the Java Control Panel. It is a tabbed dialog box. Switch to the fifth
tab, which is called "Advanced". Hit Tab once and you are in a tree view.
Go down this tree to the bottom branch and hit Right Arrow to open it. Go
down twice and press space bar. The names for the items on the tree view
are not correctly read by the WE4Java script at this time, but if this is
item number 12, you press Tab to the OK button and close the Java Control
Panel. JQS.EXE will not appear in your list of running processes in Task
Manager after that until you reboot. I know. It's a pain.

Thanks for all of your comments and information.
I don't use java, so for now, I removed java and the We4Java script from
my computer.
This seems to have improved my computer's performance dramatically here
at work.
Using windows xp sp3 on a network with we71 b1.
Thanks,
Jeff Weiss

I believe, JQS is something to do with java, I to have that task, but my
system's performance is not effected by this task.

Subject: Very slow computer performance
I have been having a problem with very slow computer performance.
I checked Window-Eyes, and it was using less than 10 percent of cpu
capacity.
The thing I found that used a lot of cpu is called
Jqs.exe
Does anybody know what this program does, or if there is a way to limit
it's ability to take so much cpu?
Thanks,
Jeff Weiss
