Hi:
No doubt NVDA is more useful than Narrator, but if you hadn't had NVDA, then Narrator would have done the job.

one problem i have with the 7.0 uninstall. the last 3 times i uninstalled i had to use the emergency removal tool to remove all of it before i could re install it. i used n d v a free screen reader to do this because there is no speech in the setup program to go to the advanced button to run the tool.
n d v a is more usable then narrator is.

Hi Mike:
Sorry for the incomplete message. Here we go again.
First, uninstall Window-eyes using the Add/Remove feature in the Control Panel. EeEither your sighted wife can do this for you or you can turn on Narrator by pressing Windowskey-u in order to have speech.
Next, reinstall Window-eyes 7.0 from the cd.
Then you can install the 7.1 upgrade, which is a free download from the Upgrade section of the GW Micro website.

How we use the name of God reveals more clearly than any creed we ever confess our deepest attitudes towards
the God of the sacred name.
I just got back to a PC running WE7.0 which had not been used for
several weeks. Upon booting up the pc, no speech was heard. My sighted
wife reported that she was unable to open WE manually either.

I am assuming that something got corrupted. How do we proceed? Do we
first have to remove or uninstall the old WE7.0 and then reinstall from
disk prior to updating to 7.1?
Or is there a simpler way to go all about this?
I am also guessing that my wife will have to do the work on this as
speech seems to be out of the question.
Can someone outline the steps we need to take in dealing first with the
nonperforming 7.0 and then the newer update.
I do have the 7.1 update available on an external drive.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.
