turn off auto load on the pages that keep refreshing with insert a while
browse mode is still on.

Sounds like you're half their. Either go into options, advanced,
general and turn off refresh, or better yet, get web vissum so you can
fill in the codes on web pages where it asks for the words in the
picture, it takes care of the refresh setting as a side-effect.
