This is a happy story. About 3 weeks ago, I reported that after a
screw-up on my part, I had to start-over with new, fresh set files. I
truthfully reported that I had never been more stable.
Well, about 10 days ago, I began experiencing what appeared to be
lock-ups. Actually, Window-Eyes (or the text-to-speech program driven
by Window-Eyes) went into silent mode, and as several have reported,
starting Window-Eyes again just produced a beep or tone.
I'll give Chip Orange the credit. He suggested the Kill Win-Eyes
script. Frankly, I was doubtful, but I resolved to try it.
The next time I encountered this "lock-up," I pressed Alt plus control
plus F-4, the Kill Win-Eyes Script hot key. I counted to 10, knocked on
wood, tossed a pinch of salt over my shoulder, retrieved my lucky
horseshoe, and crossed my fingers. Then, I pressed control plus alt
plus W, the hot key for starting Window-Eyes. WOW! Window-Eyes came up
strong and robust. All was well.
So, was it the pinch of salt or the Kill Win-Eyes Script? I'll let you
decide. <SMILE>
BTW, I isolated the killer keystroke for me. It was control delete in
an edit box where control delete is supposed to delete to the end of the
line, not the next word.
