Good morning Peggy, WindowEyes "should" work with both standby and hibernate. With that said, various people have reported problems with both of these. The only way to know for sure with your particular set up is to try it. I do use standby on my netbook and it works fine. As for the difference, standby powers down everything accept memory. The machine consumes enough power to maintain the memory image so that it can start up quickly to its previous state. Hibernate writes the memory image to disk and then powers down completely. In this way it can consume no power but still restore the machine to its previous state. Standby is the fastest to start up again followed by hibernate and then a cold boot.
Have a nice day! Can Window-Eyes work with hibernate and standby (I don't even know what the difference is between the two), or do we need to either turn the computer all the way off or all the way on? I thought I'd tried to use standby or something on my desktop a long time ago, and I couldn't get WE to talk when it started back up last night. But my sighted husband had been using the netbook last night, and hadn't turned it off when he was done, and when he hit a key later on, WE started talking. So I'm wondering if we can use WE in hibernate or standby, or either, or both, and what the difference is between the two. <smile> Peggy http://kernsac.livejournal.com http://facebook.com/kernsac __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4447 (20090922) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com If you reply to this message it will be delivered to the original sender only.
