Perhaps if we were all a bit more precise with our instructions. On my XP machine one maximizes the window by holding down the alt key and tapping the spacebar. This brings up a menu whose first choice is to "Restore" the window size. At this point you may down-arrow to see what other choices you have, or you can just tap the letter x. Hope that is specific enough.
