you didn't find the default folder because the folders are hidden from the
user by default.
you have to go to my computer then open the tools\folder options . then to
the tab control for view. tab to the list of options and press h to get to
hidden files and folders and turn on show hidden files and folders by
pressing the space bar. tab to ok. then you will find the folder.
its in the c:\users\your account
name\%apdata%\roaming\gwmicro\wineyes\users\default folder.
thats a mouth full.grin

Well, we seem to be getting back to normal. Someone on the GW-info list
suggested that the Homer Layout script often changes settings, and told me
how to copy the default profile to another location to fix it. I couldn't
find that location on my netbook, so we uninstalled Window-Eyes and
reinstalled it, and now the arrow keys and hotkeys work right. The only
thing it doesn't do is it doesn't read the headings when I write a
message:
to, from, cc, bcc, subject. I suppose I'll have to eventually learn to
fix
that. And I'll have to decide if I'm brave enough to re-upgrade to
Window-Eyes 7.11. <grin> I'm just happy to have my arrow keys and
context
menu and web hotkeys back, and I don't want to re-break anything.

How about doing a system restore back to before you went on vacation?

But could there be some kind of weirdness that causes the scroll lock to
go
on when it's in Outlook Express? I suppose it couldn't hurt to check it
out. But the fact that Window-Eyes doesn't say anything about being
associated or not associated with anything is worrisome too. I wonder
if
whatever screwed up my port setting in my Gmail account also screwed up
my
Outlook Express and Window-Eyes programs. I wish this were as easy to
fix
as it was to re-enter the port setting.

I'm sure the scroll lock returns to the default off setting once you
reboot.
Even if it were on and even if it could cause these problems, and I
don't
know if it could, that would not account for the problems because once
rebooting was done, the problems would have disappeared and not
returned
if
the scroll lock caused them.

Try turning off the scroll lock function key f12. You can also hear
what
keys are what by turning key describer on with insert 1 on the
keyboard.
The keyboard insert key is the key to the left of the delete key on
the
top right hand corner.

Subject: Another update on my netbook and Outlook Express problem
Hi, all. I had my sighted husband watch me arrow up and down a
list of
messages in Outlook Express, and he said at first that it looked
like it
wasn't scrolling. I opened the context menu, and he could see it on
the
screen, but for some reason, as I arrowed up and down, Window-Eyes
was
reading totally different things, and not what was on the context
menu.
I
haven't done anything to re-associate files, because this seems to
be a
bigger problem than that. I just can't seem to narrow down exactly
what
it
is. Would a scroll lock keep arrow keys from working? I don't know
if
the
netbook has such a scroll-lock command. We couldn't keep playing,
because
my husband got a phone call. But it seems to be a combination of
arrow
keys, Window-Eyes not being associated with anything or thinking it
has
to,
and I'm not sure what else. The weird thing is that the arrow keys
seem
to
work okay until I open Outlook Express, and then they don't seem to
work
for
anything after that until I reboot. I'm just not sure what to try
next.
If
I go through and figure out how to ree-associate Window-Eyes with
everything, that won't make the arrow keys scroll the messages. But
if I
can get the arrow keys to work, that won't fix whatever caused
Window-Eyes
to say anything about being associated to another application. This
is
just
bizarre.
