Plugins are applications, like Flash, SilverLight, QuickTime, etc. that
provide additional functionality, usually in the form of multimedia.
Plugins are typically provided by companies like Adobe, Microsoft, Apple,
etc. You can ge a list of all installed plugins by putting about:plugins
in your address bar.
Addons (used to be called extensions) are basically script packages
(similar to Window-Eyes scripts) like Adblock Plus, Download Status bar,
Firebug, LastPass, etc. Addons are provided by end users. You can get a
list of all installed addons by going to Tools, Addons.

What is the difference between plugins and addons, if any, in firefox?
