Hi Bob,

I am sorry, I have no experience of netbooks at all.
The boot up time on my desktop PC is much improved, but then the processor
on it is probably considerably more powerful than that on a netbook, with
double the amount of RAM.

There may be others on this list who have already done the upgrade you are
thinking of and will be able to give you a more accurate assessment than I
can.

Hi,

I've been thinking about upgrading to Windows7 home premium on my Asus
netbook with 2 gig of ram. The netbook works GREAT now with xp home and
really boots up very fast. If I do upgrade, would the bootup time be
increased by much?

Subject: Windows 7 Under WE 7.11

Hello list,

I have now had Windows 7 32 bit running for about 2 weeks on my Dell
Inspiron 530 PC. This has a 2.4 quad processor and 4 GB RAM, it all the
other stuff you would expect. It was previously running Windows XP Pro.

I have updated it to Windows 7 pro, removing WE first as advised.

The technical part of the upgrade went quite well. One of my family entered
the product key for me, but that was the limit of sighted assistance. I used
the transfer tool to take my data from the "old" PC to the "new" PC. This
did a good job, maintaining the 4 profiles I have on Outlook 2007, which I
was very grateful for. The only real issue was deleting the folders
transferred to the new PC. This took a bit of research, but is now done. I
even use a USB to serial converter for my DECtalk Access Synth.

Now, a couple of issues with WE.

There is a definite tendency to lose focus, needing to switch tasks to get
focus back.
I often find that when left and right arrowing on the system tray then
speech stops after about 5 items. Task switching gives me speech back.

Both of the above are tedious, not serious.

There is also a tendency of memory misuse in Outlook 2007. An example of
this is that after doing a spell check on a mail, I was returned to the list
of e-mails, not the e-mail I was on. Task switching would not cure this one.
I had to stop WE and start again.
Another example was when in a list of e-mail items in the inbox and deleting
some of them. They were ordinary e-mails as far as I could see. I received
the beep to tell me that the e-mail had gone, but it was still in the list.
I did this on several occasions but it did not help. I then began to smell a
rat and did some task switching; still no help. I unloaded WE and restarted
it. Yes, I had deleted a number of e-mails I needed as the display had not
been updated. I was able to recover them from the deleted items folder.

I have found no issues with IE so far.

If I drilled a long way down into device manager then the useful bits of the
screen were not displayed. Of course, as there are several ways of doing
anything I simply used a different route to establish the data I needed on
the USB to serial converter port.

All in all, I would not say that this is an inaccessible product, but it is
not as good as WE with XP. I will, however, stay with it and increase my
knowledge it its operations.

It is good of GW to bring this out in time for the release of the OS on the
general public.

Regards, John
