Actually I use both. Depends on what I am doing for example if I want to
change my default sound card and then I will be done in the control panel
then the menu is wonderful.
If on the other hand I need to change the sound card and then do something
else in device manager then the link view is what I need. So I have it show
up on my desktop that gives me the links. And in the start menu it is a
menu.
So to have it display as a menu on the start menu tab over to the start
button.
Now press alt+enter.
Now press control tab.
This will make the Start Menu tab active
The Customize... button will have focus.
 Now press the space bar.
The You can customize how links, icons, and menus look and behave on the
Start menu. Tree view will have focus.
Now press the letter c tell you arrive at control panel.
Arrow down to display as a menu. and check it with the space bar Press
enter.
Shift tab to ok and press enter again.
All done.

Subject: Re: control panel in windows 7

Jim,

How do you get it to display as a menu, then? I'm upgrading to win 7 this
weekend, and the menu option sounds less annoying then the link option!

TIA,
Caitlyn
