Hi Steve,

I wonder if you or anyone you know has suggestions of how I can
change and save the Hotkey to speak in the Ventrilo Chat program
using Window-Eyes.

When I launch Ventrilo, The opening screen allows me to cycle through
various Windows controls using the Tab key.
One such button is labelled "Setup".

When I highlight that particular option and press Space to activate
it, The Ventrilo Setup property Sheet opens with eight control tabs.
The focus is placed by default on the first option in the first
control page. Namely, "Enable output voice communications".
If I tab to the next option titled: "Use push to talk hotkey (PTT
mode)" and check the associated checkbox, a Hotkey assignment control
which was greyed out then appears further down in the page.
My problem Concerns how to best save and exit that selection process
while not re-assigning my intended hotkey.

I have tried assigning the hotkey to the Left CTRL key many times and
occasionally with success. But usually, the intended hotkey is
inadvertently changed in the process. Perhaps I should describe how I
am doing it because I may be going about it the wrong way

Firstly, I tab to the option, "Push to talk hotkey (PTT mode)" and
make sure the checkbox is checked.

Then I tab down to "Hotkey" and find myself in the place where I have
to press the key I wish to assign.

After doing that, I want to move on from that control and click the
"OK" button.

However any key I press to exit the control simply re-assigns the
hotkey from my intended one leaving me still locked in the control.
So, as I said, my problem is how to exit that control, retain my
desired hotkey and resume with the rest of the "setup".

My sighted wife can manage to consistently perform the trick using
the physical mouse and left clicking the "Default OK" button
". This successfully exits the control but puts the focus on the
"setup" icon on the Ventrilo opening screen. From there, it is easy
to press space on the "setup" icon and return to the "Voice" tab
page. However, often when I try to do a similar thing using the
Numeric pad keys set to "mouse", The last keystroke ends up as the
assigned hotkey. For example, I make sure the "minus" key is set to
Mouse. I then press the numeric pad "1" key to go to the bottom of the
screen. I then press the number "8" key to move first to the "Help"
button.. Then again to move up to the "Cancel" button. And a third
time to the "Default OK" button. This is the button my wife left
clicks with the mouse to exit while retaining the desired hotkey.

I try to achieve the same result by pressing the left click key to
the right of the Numpad lock key. Some times it works correctly but
often it leaves me stuck in the selection control. Other times, It
does exit the control. But when I return to the "voice tab page, My
wife tells me that the hotkey has been re-assigned to "Keyboard
break" which seems to be associated with the "left Click" key.

Does any one know what I am doing wrong or what is the proper way to
go about this using Window-Eyes.

Kind regards,
John Machin
