[Peter said:]
I'm going insane with hitting tab all of the time just to read
up and down the lines of my Microsoft word 2003.
[Ed replied:]
OK. I think using the tab key to read up and down the lines in MS Word
2003 is convincing evidence that you've already gone insane. <SMILE>
Why don't you just read up and down the lines in the document with up
arrow and down arrow? Now, if you want to read by word, use control
left and right arrows to read across a line. When you hit "TAV" you are
inserting "Tab" characters into the text. My own personal preference is
to have the tab characters actually show in Word so you can hear where
they are. So, in Word, go to tools and then under "Options," you will
find several different dialogs boxes in what's called a property sheet.
Jump from dialog to dialog using control tab. I don't remember exactly
the name of the dialogged, but I think it is "appearance." Turn on the
appearance of tab characters. You can turn on some of the other markers
too, but they just drive me nuts. You can right-arrow over tab characters.
If you're trying to navigate through a table, use the Insert key plus
the arrow keys (NOT on the Number Pad) to read cell by cell.
[Peter continued:]
I got rid of all of
the auto settings finally. Here is my issue though as follows. I hit
tab multiple times to read one line that messes up my margin lines and
it will make this beeping noise. Got any advice?
[Ed replied:]
My advice is to refrain from using the tab key unless you are in a
dialogged box or you want to insert a tab character.
