Thinkpads used to have a great rep for good build quality, and good support.

sorry you don't like your Dell desktop; I find my laptop to be fine.  I am
unhappy though that Dell does not give you unlimited lifetime support, say
for updating a driver, like IBM did when I bought my thinkpad from them.  I
don't know what Lenovo's support policy is now that they make thinkpads.

I've heard good and bad about most brands; though I'd say mostly bad about
Toshiba lately.
