Hi Jed, When I started using window eyes a couple of years back, it was on a laptop, and I too had a lot of trouble.
laptops aren't something window eyes does particularly well. I'd recommend you *do not* use their laptop keyboard layout. many functions are missing from it, other people trying to help you are likely to give you answers involving keystroke commands from the standard keyboard layout, and reading the manual, which only gives standard keyboard commands, is really confusing or frustrating to someone trying to use it. you're best alternative is to learn to use the built-in numeric pad that laptops have in the alphabetic keys, centered around the row containing U I and O. you use this by holding down the fn key of the laptop, and pressing any of the dozen or so keys which are alphabetic, but laid out like a number pad. the U I and O are the 4 5 and 6 keys. the J K and L are the 1 2 and 3 keys. the ones to the right of each of these rows vary from one laptop to the next, but are usually the very top row keys of a number pad: the slash and star and minus. going into the key describer mode, the experimenting with the fn key pressed down and going around this area of the keyboard can be your best bet. there's even an insert key which can be found in this numeric keypad group, and making some of the combinations for some commands, since you've got fn key already pressed down, can be easier using this insert key than the dedicated one on your laptop, which can be way off up in a corner somewhere. so, your question, how to move the mouse pointer character by character: hold down the fn key and use either u or O to do it. btw, the fn key is usually on the bottom row, second from the left, on most laptops. it doesn't cause any speech, so it can be a little hard to find. hth, Chip -----Original Message----- From: Jed Barton [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jed Barton Sent: Saturday, November 28, 2009 1:16 AM To: [email protected] Subject: mouse hotkeys on a laptop Anyone know how to move character by character on a laptop with the mouse? I can't find the hotkeys anywhere. Thanks, Jed If you reply to this message it will be delivered to the original sender only.
