In doing some research on the subject of electronic filing of income tax
returns with the IRs I found some useful information at
http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html#skiptocontent
Where I found, among other things, free e-filing is available for
individuals with gross incomes of less than 56,000 dollars. I found
however, no mention of tax programs like Tax Cut, Turbo Tax, etc., and their
levels of accessibility.

Last year I was able to easily get my taxes filed by using a web based
program. I would prefer all my tax data be saved locally, but was unable to
find an accessible alternative.
On the irs.gov home page, there is a link for Accessibility and a subsequent
form for making comments about the subject so near and dear to many of us.
I'm on my way there to offer my comments. Won't you join me?
http://www.irs.gov/help/page/0,,id=13148,00.html
Pressing H jumps you right to Heading 3 for sending your comments.

I hope this information is useful to the list in general. It is in now way
intended to express any personal convictions about the need for accessible
tax filing software... grin...

Sincerely,
Donald E. Bowen, Jr.

Subject: Re: Tax Software

I've been a TurboTax user for many years, and I noticed that a number of
things changed for the negative last year. From what you are saying, there
is even more
changes for this year. Can you give a few examples? Also, is there a way
to see the program for 2009 without buying it? I had better try to
determine what I am
going to do. TaxAct was somewhat accessible from 2nd Story Software, and I
think there were even JFW scripts for it so something probably could be done
with
Window-Eyes. It was lacking a few features that I liked in TurboTax such as
being able to get a list of form fields and use the list to move to a
particular place on
the form, though.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
