Hi Chris,

I spoke with a man at Audible Corporate a few weeks ago and he told me that
Audible will be changing to the Amazon platform in February. That is why
they are not doing any changes now. He said they were aware of the needs of
the visually impaired users and he thinks that many of those needs,
including being able to read samples using Windows Explorer, will be solved.
I hope he's right.

Paulette

Thanks again Rick for going the extra mile to help me out here. I know it
isn't a redesign issue. I just used the page today after regressing to IE 7,
but the regression seemed to damage something, because I could no longer do
a Windows update, so I was forced to reinstall version 8 since being able
to update Windows is a wee bit more important than making my Audible
experience more convenient. I am thinking that these blurbs are some sort of
imbedded text, perhaps connected to an image on the page. What you get with
them is basically the first four or so lines of the publisher's summary.,
and it cuts off at what seems like an arbitrary point, sometimes in the
middle of a sentence indicating to me that there is a hard limit to the
amount of text included. I've had some sighted members of my family look and
they also do not see the text anywhere. I am beginning to wonder if it is
what I guess you could call a ghost of a feature of the old site, something
designed to pop up with a mouse-over that is part of a template for book
entries that just never got removed but that hasn't been updated. To add to
the mix, I temporarily installed WE on a sighted friend's computer that
also has XP service pack 3 with IE 7 and was able to find the blurbs ,
though my friend did not notice anything popping up with the text WE was
reading. This is just plain odd. Nobody at Audible email or phone has any
idea of this feature, artifact or whatever, though all have promised to
send queries on to the website folks. If it is an artifact of the past, or
an unintentional feature, perhaps they can figure out how it works and make
it an intentional feature.. If I can figure out how to go back to IE 7
without the errors I encountered today I am going to do so, I just find it
too useful. But if I can't get back to 7, I guess I will just have to do
things the old fashioned way.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,
Pulled up ZoomText to do my best to look at the pages. Started with the
Audible Best Sellers list, and then went to the NY Times list. Neither of
these groups had any description beyond the release date and the length.
Arbitrarily, I then selected "Fantasy Contemporary" as another kind of
grouping. Since I rarely look at the screen when doing my Audible order, I
was surprised that the first of the pages of this category had items
arranged not as I had expected in a single column but rather in rows of
\four items. Again, there were no descriptions, not even the release date or
length.

I am wondering if about the time you migrated to IE 8 there was some
redesign of the Audible site.

It seemed to me when the company was bought, there were some notable changes
to the site. I know that for me the pages became more cumbersome to work
through, but having no old pages to compare, I was not sure.

Hope this helps and if there is anyone on the list with 20/20 vision, might
you check the site and report what you find?
