That is what the developers claim.... And, as far as I hear, it is true enough. OpenOffice even can read, and save, files in MSOffice formats. So, at least for the average user, you will do just fine with OpenOffice. That is, for those who can make use of it. And this is one reason, why many have wanted the developers to make their software more accessible. Would really be a great thing, if it is true, they have done something, to approach the problem. And, for sure, it would have saved the average home-user for a good chunk of money. Let's hear, if anyone have had any success at all, in using newest version of OpenOffice. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Darren Harris" <[email protected]>

If open office was made accessible then would that then mean we would never
have to purchase ms office? I mean can open office do everything that ms
office does?

I have read on the JAVA-Access list that it is felt the latest version is
accessible with Java Support. This would mean
that one would at least have to install the WE4JAVA script, and since I have
still not heard of anyone actually using this,
I assume there might have to be some tweaking. Since some work has been
done, it would be good if someone would
try it out. It is very true that it has not historically been accessible.

insist
of keeping the product all that inaccessible. It is, as I have got it,
based
on Java, and Java and screenreaders are not the best friends. Some tech
guys, will have to tell you why this is. But, at least, forget OpenOffice.

I just downloaded Open Office latest version.

Using WE7.11 amd Windows 7 Home Premium I opened a document and could
only
read it using the mouse. No keyboard keys would work.

Am I doing something wrong or is the program problematic?
