Hello all:
I'm not sure whether this is a script idea, a request for a Window-Eyes
feature addition, or possibly some code I can send the synthesizer.
Here is the issue:
With numbers "on," Window-Eyes will read 3176 as thirty one seventy
six. That's perfect for phone numbers.
With numbers on, however, the number 443176 is read four hundred forty
three thousand one hundred seventy six.
four four three one seven 6 is much faster, and the larger the
number, the longer it takes with numbers on. When one is in a hurry,
that's incredibly annoying.
With numbers "off," however, 3176 is three one seven six. Also, January
31 is January three one, not January thirty one.
So, it would be very nice for those of us who have to deal with mixed
numbers, e.g., phone numbers and dates as well as lots of longer
numbers, like 7 digit file numbers, if there were a "pairs" option.
With strings of characters greater than 4, the synthesizer would read as
though numbers were off. For strings of numerals 4 or 2, the
synthesizer would read as though numbers were on. For strings of 3
numbers I (and this is purely personal preference) would prefer to hear
the numbers read as though numbers were off.
Perhaps I'm being excessively pedantic, but I sense I'm not alone. I've
seen an application somewhere, can't remember where, which offered a
"pairs" option. Perhaps it was a synthesizer.
I cannot imagine this being all that difficult to program, and it would
save, over time, lots of wasted effort in listening to way more syllabus
than needed while, at the same time, reading dates, times, and phone
numbers properly.
This would personally help me enormously. I suspect this will sound
like nonsense to others.
