Don,
Open up the sound applet in the Windows control panel. Select your Sound
Blaster in the list, and click "Properties." Navigate to the
"enhancements" tab, and be sure the "disable all sound effects" box is
checked. Click "Apply," and close the window. You should notice an
immediate improvement in audio quality and responsiveness.
Best regaards,
Steve

Doug,
I am running a Sound Blaster Xfi Xtreme sound card in a PCI express slot
with the latest drivers. The problem also existed with the on board sound
which was the Realtec. What sound card do you suggest? I think it was
Aaron that told me that the test bed machines you had in house had a variety
of sound cards and on board sound but he would not suggest a card that may
cure my problem. You tell me what I need and I will get it. I appreciate
your help.

Don,
It isn't because you went to 64-bit. It is because you went to a different
sound card. We have seen with some sound cards DECtalk can be sluggish,
especially older drivers. I'm sure you've checked this out but I'll say it
just in case. Make sure you are using the latest sound card driver. Or
consider getting a dedicated sound card instead of using whatever came on
your motherboard. 64-bit has nothing to do with it but your sound card
driver has everything to do with it.

Doug

I have been a Dectalk Express and Decaccess 32 user for over 15 years
and just can't get used to the way Eloquence pronounces words. I know
it is all in what you get used to.
My biggest problem in using Decaccess 32 with a 64 bit machine is the
difference when typing. Before switching to 64 bit When typing no
matter how fast and what speed you had decaccess talking you would get
chatter while typing. Now with decaccess unless you really type slow
you get silence. I do not have it in word mode. With Eloquence you
do get the chatter while typing.
GW says nothing has changed with Decaccess at their end but it is
obvious that Decaccess works differently with a 64 bit machine.
