as I said this is probably someone with a nasty bug. they don't need legal action they need help getting rid of the bug. they probably don't even know they have a problem. this can happen to the best of us.

I find something like this rather sad being honest.

Yes I've just recently read and caught up with these posts. Anybody with an
ounce of common sense would realise that these messages are spam.

If you have the ip addresses and so on of who ever did this then can legal
action be taken against said person? Personally I think that stuff like this
all to often gets just left alone and nobody bothers to crack down on it.

These messages are not the result of a virus or being infected. These
messages are from someone deliberately trying to defame GW Micro and
disrupt our services. While keeping yourself current in virus and
anti-spyware protection is an excellent idea, understand this recent
outburst of childish behavior is attributed by someone who has a grudge
against GW Micro, our products, our services, or our customers.

Subject: GW Micro Listserv Update

Greetings,

First of all, we would like to apologize for the recent barrage of
indecent messages to various GW Micro lists. We have taken steps to
minimize this problem enough to turn our email lists back on. While
this problem may crop up again in the future, rest assured that we
take it seriously, and are actively pursuing strategies to keep our
list content respectful and on topic.

Thank you to everyone who notified us of the problem. Your commitment
to GW Micro is what makes our services as good as they are.

Understand that these messages did not originate from GW Micro staff
members, nor did they originate from the people whose names and
emails graced the from field. In other words, they were spoofs,
meaning they were forged to look as though they came from a specific
individual, when in fact they came from another.

We are very proud of the freedom that the GW Micro email lists
provide for all members. There are times, however, when that freedom
is abused by those seeking to do harm in some way or another. While
we recognize that this potential threat exists, we do not feel it
warrants any kind of list lock-down or moderation. Our list members
are typically wise enough, and know us well enough, to know what to
do with a message that contains questionable content.

Let me leave you with one additional thought. When you reply to an
email message, that entire message becomes editable. That means, not
only can you add your reply, but you can also edit the content from
the original message. While one could conceivably use that
opportunity to make the original message author say things he or she
did not intend to say, it also provides you with the opportunity to
clean up the messages you're replying to or commenting on. This
technique is a fantastic way to minimize the size of your message by
limiting its content to only that text which contributes to the
conversation. It also (and here's the important part of this thought)
allows you to strip out words, phrases, even whole paragraphs that
are offensive, abusive, or disrespectful. When you reply to a message
that contains content you'd rather not be privy to, but choose not to
remove said content, you are helping to spread the information you
disagreed with in the first place.

It behooves us all to take a few minutes to compose ourselves when
replying, and think about what everyone else is going to read once
the send button is selected.

Just some food for thought.

Please feel free to re-engage in vigorous and on-topic list
discussion.

Aaron
