Hello fellow window-eyes users,
I'm taking a computer class next fall, and the teacher has informed me
that we'll be using word 2007. I've had a chance to check out word 2007
with window-eyes, and you know what? Well, I'm gonna be honest and just
come out and tell you. Word 2007, is in my opinion the worst version of
word that microsoft has ever come out with. The program absolutely
stinks. I don't know who the ittiot at Microsoft was, who came up with
the idea to take away the menu bar that we've all come to know and
love, and replace it with that rediculous piece of junk they call the
ribbon. I can understand how it may be helpful to someone, who might be
a graphics designer or big time business tycoon who just loves to make
his documents all colorful and pretty, but what about the rest of us?
Doesn't Microsoft realize, that not everyone in the world is a business
person? didn't it ever cross their minds that there might be some
people, who might have trouble using their new graphical interface?
Particularly those of us who use screen readers? I hate to say it, but
I believe, that Microsoft created word 2007, with no intention of ever
including people with disabilities. If they were thinking about us,
they wouldn't have made the program so damn graphical! Now, before I
get off on a major rant, and end up saying something on this list that
I may regret saying, here's my question. For any of you who use word
2007, could you please, please, give me some pointers, as to how to get
around that horrible ribbon? Is there an easy way to gain access to the
formatting features? In word 2003 and prior, we have things like file,
edit, view, insert, ETC. Whereby it was obvious what choices we had, so
we could format our documents. But after looking at the ribbon, I can't
make heads or tails of any of it. Nothing makes any sense. So, I'd like
to know if there's any way I can perform tasks in word 2007 using this
thing with window-eyes? You know, if I really wanted to be mean, I
could really curse Microsoft to no end. But we all know the trouble I'd
get into with GW Micro if I did that on this list. But when I sit down
at the computer to type a word document, that's all I want to do; Type
a word document, complete with doublespacing and centered text where
necessary. I don't care about all that graphical, colorful stuff. Don't
need it, don't want it. I just want to complete a simple document,
without all the bells and whistles.
