hi,
first better sound quality.
second less bandwidth. third a number of stability bugs were fixed.
fourth the ability to handle all chats etc from one window.
fifth support from the Skype team and the Skype community Skype 3.8 isn't
being supported any more.
sixth the ability to run it on windows 7 64. yep that is right Skype 3.8
will not run on windows 7 64.
as for why your not getting contact description from msaa not sure about
that one.
it might be a good idea to ask Jeff because I see this information from the
Skype scripts and msaa detective. mind trying to run the msaa detective to
let us know what you are seeing.
also remember if you don't like the Skype 4.2 interface you can always
download a copy of Skype talking. this will provide you with a nice
interface for accessing your contacts calling them chatting with them etc.
it also provides a number of useful commands that the scripts for
window-eyes do not yet provide.
another option is you could use Miranda's Skype plug-in to provide you with
another interface. so you have options here.

Subject: skype 4.2
Please can someone point out the advantages of using Skype 4.2 as opposed
to 3.8? I have just installed 4.2 again, and am finding that window-eyes
does not read the contacts status. How come that NVDA does read it and
window-eyes doesn't
