Hey Guys Glad to know about the .msc extension, but Rick, your filename differs from Keith's. Lusrmgr and lusermger are not the same. Which is correct?

At least under Windows 7 ultimate, one must enter lusermger.msc in the run dialog. It won't work without the .msc extension. Just an FYI. --Regards, --Rick alfaro [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: Keith Hinton [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, May 13, 2010 6:38 PM To: gw-info Subject: A technical tip for those blind Windows users who use Vista/Seven Hi all. While helping out a friend I decided to type up the following techincal tip. Please give this a test and see how Window-Eyes handles with this. The only screen reader that did not do so well with this test is mentioned in the instructions that I've written up. If anyone wishes to give me personal feedback on this tip (including if anything did not work) or indeed, any other useful chriticism or ways to make this tip work better for those of you using screen-access programs, please send me a mail off-list at: [email protected] Below is the instructions. The instructions for turning off an annoying feature of Windows Seven password expiration is given below. Please use these steps if this needs to be done. Note: If UAC (User Account Control) is disabled on your machine, then you do not need to do the first few steps. 1. Go to the start menu. 2. Type: CMD into the search edit box. 3. Hit your applications key, or press shift-F10 to enter your context menu. 4. Press the letter A to choose "Run As Administrator." 5. When prompted by the UAC (User Account Control System) press the keyboard command alt-Y to continue. This will land you in the command terminal of Windows. 6. Next, to avoid typos, you may want to type the following command: net accounts /maxpwage:unlimited Another option, though not as fast is to do the following: 1. Go to the run dialog box. 2. Execute the following command: lusrmgr 3. Press Enter. Useful Information: If using a screen-access software program, while in the context menu searching for the "Run As Administrator" option, you may not realize that you are in a context menu. I have tested this successfully in the passed using JAWS for Windows from Freedom Scientific, using the present build of JAWS 11.0 if you are inside the start menu on an option when the context keystroke is pressed. JAWS does not seem to realize that a context menu is present, and says nothing whatsoever. This appears to be present regardless of if you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. JAWS will, however, say leaving menus, after selecting an option, but just won't announce the menu being opened up. Take special note: The command lusrmgr appears not to be available in Windows Seven Home Basic or the Home Premium version. The website where this information may be found is: http://breztech.wordpress.com/2009/07/15/howto-turn-off-password-expiration- in-windows-7/ If anyone finds this useful, please let me know if that helped out. This will be particularly useful for those technical Windows folks who have received something like this at logon: "Change your password your password will expire in 4 days. Press Control-Alt-Delete" Can't remember the rest of the message, but I find that annoying. I'm about to go and test this for a friend of mine after I reboot his machine. Thanks for all who listened to this! Enjoy! Regards, --Keith If you reply to this message it will be delivered to the original sender only.
