hi, how come the dectalk access32 synthesizer has never been up graided? as
far as I know fonix
still offers it. also have you tested the talk software they replaced it with?
if so how good is it and how does it sound.

Upgrading to Windows 7 is exactly what we have done, and can no longer
install/use/maintain/access the DECtalk software without providing specific
resources just to run that software alone. The decision was made, since it
became more problematic to support, to stop support altogether. Understand that
this didn't just happen yesterday. We've not supported the DECtalk Access 32
for at lease a couple of years now.

As mentioned previously, Window-Eyes users still have access to the built-in
version of the DECtalk Access 32 voice through Window-Eyes. I certainly
understand your frustration, and I feel you you. Really, I do. And I wonder how
you'll feel next month when Microsoft ends support for Windows XP. The cost of
what you paid for your copy of Windows XP is several times more than what you
paid for DEC32.

Excuse me, it is time you guys supported something which, just requiring
"software" as you said on the phone, requiring a minimal amount of effort,
since if it is just "software," why not maintain it in the case someone like me
comes along who needs a refreshment of my paid for, from you guys,
Dec_access32. Keeping that software for these cases would circumvent this
happening as it did today. Now I feel screwed since I cannot use something I
paid for and paid to work properly in this operating system. Sure, if I updated
to Windows 7, that's another kettle of fish but this is still the same kettle
as it were.
Drawing the "line" as you put it, doesn't mean obliterating" it entirely, it
seems to me.

I was the lucky person to ruin Curtis's day. FYI to everyone: You can still
use DECtalk Access 32 with Window-Eyes using the built in version. We do not,
however, provide support for software that is no longer developed or
maintained. We had to draw the line somewhere, and we felt that it was
completely reasonable to stop supporting a synthesizer that most people used
for other applications besides Window-Eyes. If you use Window-Eyes, you can
camp happily. If you use some other piece of software, it's time to let them
know you want them to include the proprietary version of DEC32 as well.

For all of us who still run Windows XP home or PRO who have a change in
processors, where Dec_Access32 is still needed, and no more 3.5-inch floppy
drives available, GW-Micro no longer has the software which will generate the
"regcode," to continue support. Software? What would it cost to keep around for
those of us who still would like to use Dec_Access32, if only software is
needed to generate a regcode for a future service call.
I feel outraged since I am now forced to use Eloquence which I do use
some, but it is not my speech engine of preference.
No thanks, GW-Micro. Sure I will upgrade (if that is what it is) my OS at
some future date, but I had a processor failure / mother board failure so after
there replacement, I am not up the creek without a DecTalk.
Thanks again! I can use Window-Eyes DecTalk, but not for K1000 where I
like to use it to read a good novel, rather than the so-called "human sounding"
synthesizers, or, again, Eloquence, thank you not so very much.
I must use the jfw Eloquence now too instead of Dec_Access32, also, no
thanks again.

I am not a happy camper today, I can assure you all!
