Also, in my outlook 2003, the status bar is something you can turn on or off
under the view menu, so I'd guess in outlook 2007, you could also turn off
the status bar, and maybe windows live mail as well.

I don't use Windows Live Mail, but 2 things have helped me when the status
bar isn't reading correctly in other applications. First make sure that the
application is maximized. Second, try redrawing the screen.
