It all depends on what you want to do.
If you just do email, and browse the web, and such, don't bother to upgrade.
If you go to w7, you'll have to replace a lot of your old familiar
software you like to use.
But if you run applications that need the extra ram, and power,
then w7 may be for you.
Not a lot to be gained by going with 32 bit w7 other than some of
your software will quit working.
About the only thing I like better generically about w7 is the
separate volume controls for everything.
Some folks like the search box, I think it's a pain in the ass.
And if your computer was bought in the last couple of years, it'll
probably find all your generic hardware and light it up without
having to get drivers, w7 knows about sata controlers and stuff like that.
But my philosophy is that unless your an experienced user or
technician that likes to tinker,
or you just get a new computer with w7 on it and have to deal with
it, don't trouble yourself, because it's not like wow, I get so much
more with w7,
and on your existing older hardware, it will take a bit more to run
w7 in other words, your aging pentium 4 will run slower with w7 on it than xp.
I still spend most of my time in xp because the drivers for my
high-end sound card for w7 suck, they haven't gotten the bugs worked out yet.
But it'll be good when they do,
because w7 will take advantage of all four cores on my i7 as well as
the full 6 gigs of memory,
I'm just waiting for the drivers to grow up.
