Hi Wren, First of all make sure your windows-mail window is maximized, alt-space and then x. You can check the status of the active window by pressing ctrl-shift-t if it is maximized WE should say normal.
If that doesn't solve the problem, Make sure you have the current set file loaded for Outlook Express. You can check this in the WE control panel under manage sets and scripts. under file. after choosing scripts and set files arrow down to set files. It will take a few seconds to check your system. Arrow down to out look express and if the set file version is older than the current version just tab to install and WE will install the latest set file. Most likely your problem is that the screen isn't maximized. I know to read the manual, but I just wanted some quick answers so I could get started. I am now reading the manual, and trying to use the tip of the day and the help topics, so I can learn as I go. Window-Eyes always seemed daunting to me, because more of it seems to need configuring than JAWS does. I like it better though, because it seems to be more stable. I'm not trying to bash screenreaders here, and I do not want to start a discussion about them. I'm just taking the long way around to say thank you to GW-Micro for a wonderful program. I use Windows Mail. Window-Eyes is not announcing whether the messages are read or unread. How can I fix this? Thank you for your help.
