I'm using version 7.2 of Window Eyes, and just uninstalled IE8 again. It seems that I get fewer links with it than with IE7. I've seen this before with earlier versions of Window Eyes; I tried installing IE8 a couple of times before and noticed the same thing. So today I decided to give it another go with the latest version of Window Eyes. The two sites I checked, Bookshare and Google are missing a lot of links. With Google and IE7, today WE tells me that it sees 30 links. (That number varies a bit from day to day as Google adds temporary links.) But with IE8, WE says that there are only 17 links. It seems that many of the links to features that appear above the search box are somehow missing. With Bookshare, WE reports fewer than half the number of links with IE8 than it does with IE7.
I've never heard of this kind of thing being mentioned in the computer magazines I read for the sighted when they talk about IE8, so I have to wonder if it is something to do with Window Eyes. Does anyone else see this problem, or is it somehow unique to my computer? I would like to use IE8 because it is noticeably faster, (perhaps because it isn't loading pages completely), and I believe it is more secure. But if it isn't rendering pages properly for some reason, or if WE doesn't work with it correctly, then I'll either have to stick with IE7, or perhaps I should switch to Firefox. IE8 has been around for quite a while, so I would have thought that any major bugs would have been worked out by now. So maybe there's something weird with my system that is causing this problem.
