I don't feel the payment plan is a ripoff especially since you get unlimited
access to the program while you're paying it off. That's one thing FS
doesn't offer and never has. But I've had a lot of staunch JFW users tell me
that Window-Eyes doesn't work with a lot of standard work force
applications. I certainly hope this doesn't prove true since if and when I
get a job I most definitely don't want to have to go back to JAWS even if
it's just at work.

Subject: Re: Suggestions on how to help new users consider the Window-Eyes
payment plan?
I'm pretty sure that's true.
The real question is, why is there any compitition at all?
In the end, Someone is going to make a serious mistake, and when that
happens the company will crash.
Either crash, or enough customers will explode at the company and
force them out of business. That's probably something that won't
happen any time soon, but it remains a possibility. I doubt GW Micro
will be the one to make that serious mistake, but if you take a listen
to Doug Geoffray's interview with Mosen on the blind line talk show,
back when Window-Eyes 4.2 came out, he mentioned that you'll see
regressions in a lot of releases.
Well, hasn't that been the case with each and every single release
with respect to JAWS?
The security flaws fixed, but not specifically mentioned to any of the
customers?
Along with the sudden rush of updates?
So far, I've only seen JAWS breaking more and more. Not less and less.
I don't think that Freedom Scientific maintains a stable core like GW
Micro strives to. Also, Freedom Scientific's JAWS product is a pile of
scripts.
All one would need to do is edit default.JSS, save it and recompile
it, and after tampering with that, you've taken out JAWS in that case.
So is it any real surprise?
Where as Window-Eyes scripting is optional, and can be completely
turned off altogether if wished, JAWS cannot be turned off from its
scripting, as that's how the program works.
I can't believe that after all these years of growing up with JAWS, I
began my first keyboard lesson using JAWS for DOS..that I was training
witha pile of scripts. I've taught myself nothing but scripts!
I feel more ashamed than ever.
I discovered Window-Eyes 4.0 back when I was given a refurbished
Windows 95 computer with 32MB of RAM, a horrible stuttering sound
blaster 16 sound card, and a Sounding Board synthesizer using the
Braille 'N Speak Artic Transport chip.
Prior to that, I used Vocal Eyes 3.0 with a DOS PC using a Sounding
Board as the speech system.
So you could say that I am pretty used to GW Micro and Window-Eyes.
I know the keystrokes well enough to train someone on it.
Sometimes I need to refer back to the manual because there is no way I
can retain everything.
I remember using Doug's Window-Eyes manual tapes back then.
I'd put the tape on the non-existing track3 and make him go reverse
sometimes. LOL

I hope you don't mind me telling you this Keith, but show them what FS
charge for their competition. They they will get more angry as that's a

Hi to everyone!
I had a few things I wanted to seek some help on.
I have some friends, some of wich are blind, some are sighted.
What I'm trying to do, mainly through me teling my friends about GW
Micro and Window-Eyes, is to encourage, ratehr than to discourage my
friends to at least consider the Window-Eyes demonstration copy
available at
http://www.GWMicro.com/Demo
or to take a look at the Window-Eyes payment plan.
I am no exbirt on this and do not pretend to be-I will never be one
anyways.
But what I'm wondering is this.
I've noticed a lot of my friends seem open at least to the idea of
trying the Window-Eyes demo.
But as soon as I show them the payment plan page, and read the details
on how much money they must pay off in total, I have gotten rather
argumentitive fighting comments such as: "This is a freakin rip off!"
This usually ends up with me insisting that in no way is it a rip off,
and that the people are more "blind" than I thought possible, and
usually ends up with me being at odds with a lot of them, insisting
that I'm crazy about standing up for some software program.
That may be true.
But I'm wondering, what other points can I make? How can I convince my
friends and others that the payment plan is not a rip off, and that GW
Micro wouldn't do such a thing?
I've been trying to figure out what I can say for a while now. But
can't seem to get a good idea started.
Any recommendations from anyone either as a Window-Eyes user who has a
payment plan, or from the staff and developers at GW Micro itself?
It would be nice to see the customer-base of GW Micro incrace. Any way
I can help to insure that this happens is what I am striving to do.
But I don't want to go too far and press the issue.
I suppose if people think that paying the Window-Eyes payment plan is
a rip off, then I suppose I can't do anything. Can I?
Thanks!
