Keith,
XP is being left behind? By whom? XP is dying? Well its going to be a looooooooong slooooooooooow death then since it wont die officially until 2014, which is 4 years from now. So who cares if people choose to stay with XP? It works. Its pretty solid. And many people cannot afford the new hardware that 7 requires. SO let them enhoy XP, they can save their pennies for 4 years and who knows, by then the next Windows will be even better than 7.

Of course at some point XP will go the way of 95, 98, ME, Vista. But why rush it?

Why do you care that some people may hang onto what you call a dying operating system? Are you going to foot the bill so they can upgrade their hardware and software? And how many people are still using DOS, 95, 98, ME? Probbaly more than we know.

Let my XP machine die? Why, to make you feel better? I think not. You chose to move up to 7. Many choose to stay with XP. Let it be.

Need I point out regardless, that XP is being left behind?
The next beta release of Internet Explorer, nine will be coming out on
September 15.
It will not be for XP users.
My suggestion is to allow XP to just die already.
It will be completely pointless for Doug Geoffray of GW Micro to
continue to support an old operating system that is over 10 years old,
and for that matter XP is following in the footsteps of Windows2000,
wich is now dead.
XP SP3 dies apparently sometime in 2014. Prior to this, application
designers will begin supporting Windows Seven, and newer.
Windows8 is the next version of the client OS.
I don't know if Window-Eyes8 or newer will support that, but XP is a
dying platform.
What happens when XP is no longer supported? Will all you Window-Eyes
users cling onto an operating system that in my personal opinion is
totally pointless in even being backward compatible with?
I think it is high time that every single one of you XP users
permitted your hardware to be used by Linux, or something else, and
converted over to Windows Seven. So what if it effects your
Window-Eyes scripting development in negative bad ways?
I'd say, iron out all the issues.
I don't know if scripting development is unstable under the Vista and
above code platforms, but regardless. XP is on it's way to it's
deathbed.
How many XP users will use it after it has expired?
Even XP mode in Windows Seven is pointless, and is once again, another
sign that everyone in the entire world needs to permit there XP
machines to die.
That's just my two sence on the issue of XP V.s the other technologies.

Aloha to all,
I have found a work around that helps me when window eyes stops speaking
I'd like to point out that if you lose speech, sometimes Window Eyes may not
be at fault.
windows loses sound and keyboard function at random.
This is a known issue with all windows operating systems, with no fix.

Here's my work around:
  the problem:
Windows operating system has lost sound:

my first choice is to remove the connection to my usb wireless headset, and
viola
window eyes starts talking using my external speakers, then I just replug
the usb
and my wireless is talking again.
In this case, windows was the culprit for the loss of sound.

The problem:
The wireless keyboard has stopped functioning:

I just change keyboards, and use the wired keyboard and everything is
back to normal, i.e., window eyes is speaking again.

If that does not work, I use a hot key to shutdown all three window eyes
applications
using a batch file and count to 10 and restart window eyes and again
viola window eyes is up and running.
In this case window eyes had crashed.

When I am about to run a program that I know will prevent window eyes from
speaking
because the program seems to take all of the c-p-u, I run "sm seesaw pro and
I isolate
window eyes to one of my 4 processors, and then I run the other program, and
I still
can work on the computer using window eyes still speaking
I am using:
Window Eyes 7.2 (updated)

Dell xps420
windows 7
Intel quad core q6600, with 8 gigs of ram memory
Somebody made the comment that window eyes seem to crash with windows 7 more
often than with other windows operating system, and I agree.

I use window eyes on windows 7, vista, and windows xp with sp3, with all
systems up to date, and window eyes seems to be more stable with xp and
least stable with windows 7.

Good luck,
Manny

Raul!
In conjunction with your answer, I have a question, that often been
tickling
my mind. As far as I get it - and feel free to arrest me here - WE is
making
use of the Harddisk when puttting out speech? If so, and we take it that
the
reason why speech is lost, in certain cases, is due to excessive disk
usage
from another application (i.e through a diskdefragmentation); Would it be
of
any benefit to install - and run - WE on a secondary drive? Even on a
laptop, for instance, will there be chances of less speech loss, if you
run
WE from a USB pendrive, since all the WE activity then would not affect
the
diskdrive of the main system? Has anyone tried this, and got any
experience
as to whether a secondary drive solution will be of any benefit at all?

OK, I do see, there will be many cases, where WE will be slow responding,
or
even halting, which would depend on anything but the disk usage. Yet,
several of my 'slow response' issues might be in connection with software
that tend to use the disk rather agressively; why this has been crossing
my
mind. The speech loss in browse mode - be it in Internet Explorer,
Firefox,
or even when reading Emails in Outlook Express - Well, I agree, none of
these would be due to disk usage. But that is a matter I guess you are
looking into, when the new browse mode comes around. They definately have
been more frequent from WE7 and up.

Thanks alot!
