Strange this link http://www.google.com/custom works perfectly here in Europe. You type the letter C and WE says something like edit box and you can type how much you want without interruption. Maybe WE say "search", if so, you knock on shift + tab and then knock on Enter and type what you want. Set it as your starting page/home page in your Firefox. Use Ctrl + T to open a new empty window for url adresses you know sometimes so you have this custom google search easier at hand. If google toolbar is not as good as this custom.
