It does not matter if outlook really support it or not.
The default save option for Outlook is plain text or msg format. There's
extension to add to the functionality of it but my point is, eml format is
just plain text.
If you ask outlook to save that particular message to plain text, rename the
extension to eml, it will be just eml after. Eml  is just plain text, so
there's no problem there.

Hi,

Yes, eml files can be opened in Outlook.  Select the eml file in Windows 
Explorer and press the Applications key.  Choose Open With from the pop 
up menu then choose Outlook.  Once the message is displayed in Outlook 
you can use the menus or keyboard short cut to copy it to an Outlook 
folder to save having to open it from Windows Explorer in the future.

I'm fairly sure Outlook can also save messages as eml files, but don't 
have it installed at the moment to confirm that.
