Firstly, to read the info on the screen, when you open Java Control Panel,
I'd suggest for you to download the WE4Java script, from SC. That at least
will solve your problem of not being able to read anything more than the
title bar.
Secondly, in Internet Explorer, if you go to the Tools menu, Then choose
Internet Options (which by the way is the last choice in that menu), you
might want to check if Java is turned on, on your system. Do this by hitting
Ctrl-Shift-Tab, once in the Internet Options menu. You now should be in the
Advanced tab. Here is a LONG list of settings. Use the down-Arrow, till you
hit Java Sun, and the next line will tell you, whether your Java is turned
on. If not, press Spacebar, to toggle the setting. Once done, tab over to
OK, and hit Enter.
I don't know your bank, and their site. But in my case, the bank's homepage
even has a link, that gives me the chane of 'testing' if my system is Java
ready, and has all stuff installed, that is needed to operate the site. A
good feature, if you want to check your systeme before starting to do your
actual banking. You might want to just scroll through the choices you have
on their homepage, to see if they happen to have something similar. Usually,
it should be right there, if they do offer such a feature.
Thirdly, and this is a mere blind shot: When you try to access the page in
question, do you get any sounds from the webpage? Some kind of a beep or the
like? Well, why I am asking, is because you might happen to get an Info bar,
telling you to install some ActiveX control. Not sure, if your bank would
need you to do that kind of stuff, but surely a lot of webpages do; and
they'd come up with many a funny message and behavior, if you don't. In
case, ther is some kind of jingle, whenever you try to access the page,
press Alt-N, and then the spacebar. Then follow onscreen instructions.
Hope any of this will help you out. By the way, the We4Java script, might
even help you read the error message screen, that you tell you get when
trying to access the page. In my case, I wasn't even able to have WE
recognize the inputboxes for my user- and password information, until I had
the script installed.
Really hoping, that WE8 will include support for Java, that we don't have to
rely on scripts, so as to access important websites, like the banking sites.
So GW, if you happen to not having enough requests on your drawing board for
that new version, SMILE!

Subject: RE: Java and WE and IE8 and Win7 32bit
I could not find Java in the Advanced tab of IE8 options. I looked
on two other Win7 computers. It's not there.
I did find a Java Control Panel in the Windows 7 Control Panel. I opened
the Java control Panel and all WE7.2 would read was the title bar.
My bank offers a deposit checks from home feature I am anxious to try. I
have made sure I have the Java and read somewhere that once installed, it,
Java, would install and configure itself to work with IE8. However, when
I
go to my banks web site and hit the Make A Deposit link, I get an RPC java
Frame that says quote Your browser does not support java so nothing is
displayed endquote.
I tried this same thing with firefox without the no script addon and this
time I got a Java RPC Frame. No error message as above with IE. And no
controls to procede with deposit.
Help!

Ok go to the control panel and hit enter on Internet options. There are
several tabs one being advanced. There should be a Java listing there
to either turn it on or off.

Thanks to Don and Juan for taking the time to point me to the solution
for updating Java on my machine. Now I get the following message from my
banks web site where I am trying to do my first deposit from home.

Can you tell me where to enable java for IE 8 under Win7 with WE 7.2?
Thanks much!
Donald
