Well, to be clear: it works better than any other screen reader does with office 2010. however, there are a few issues like this; I've found another control in the Word options which doesn't speak properly, you have to read the current highlight to get the value.
However, with Word anyway, it works pretty well, and you can work around these relatively minor problems. Outlook can be a little more problematic, but even so it's still quite usable, except perhaps if you were trying to read with the mouse pointer. This is worlds ahead of the competition, and GW does deserve congrats on getting WE ready for office 2010 so quickly, when the competition is way behind; yes, we have to let them know of these problems, and maybe I'd stay with 2007 if I had the choice and were giving advice, but if you end up with a system with office 2010 preloaded, well, WE does quite well. the problem is caused by MS switching away from the MSAA standard, which has been used by programs and screen readers for years, to a new replacement called UI automation. this is going to mean a lot of work for screen reader makers, and people are going to be upset because they'll have to pay for an upgrade (usually), just to get the latest version of Office working, when it's worked for years (although I think the WE upgrade was a free one). hth, Chip -----Original Message----- From: bbs [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, September 27, 2010 12:55 AM To: GW Micro Product Discussion Listserv Subject: Re: Ms Word 2010 Hi tom. I believe that someone already posted that Ms Office doesn't work with Window-Eyes yet, but it will work fully with Window-Eyes 8.
