Hi. Yes, Chris, you have to enter the product key even with the purchase of the DVD, that is, during a 30-day period. During the 30 days you will occasionally receive a dire warning notifying you that you must activate your product by entering the product key, or your use of the product will cease or not function fully or whatever. I don't exactly remember the wording.
As Mike found out the hard way, the product key is printed on a card in the Microsoft Office package. It would be a good idea to have somebody with good eye sight read the product key as I did and stored it on my recorder. I don't want to mention the device in fairness to GW Micro. The product key does not contain symbols that could cause them to be misread such as 0's, 1's, I's and so forth. Like the old phrase says, hope this helps, smile. Mike M.
