Yes, going into customize desktop and checking the icon did bring it back. All is well again.

Thanks to all for your suggestions,

Don

Hi there, I don't know if this is the quickest way, but this is what I
have figured out.

Right click on an empty area of your desktop, then go to properties.
This'll bring you to where you can change the theme, desktop, screen
saver, etc. Tab over to desktop, then there is a selection to customize.
Inside there is where you'll find the desktop icons, the top choice
seems to be the my documents. I believe if you check that, it'll
reappear where it is suppose to.

Hope this helps,

Subject: arranging desktop icons

Hi everyone,

I use a windows 7 machine, but my wife has a problem on her xp machine
and I can't remember how to fix it.

I'm really not sure exactly how she did this, but somehow she deleted
her My Documents icon from her desktop. All the documents and such are
still there, just the icon is gone.

I went into the documents and settings folder and found her "my
documents" and created a shortcut which I then moved to the desktop.

The problem is that it should appear above the "My Computer" icon and
it's actually located over to the right of that.

I've experimented with items in the "arrange by" under the desktop
context menu but can't seem to get it back where it belongs.

I did something similar once myself and was able to fix it, but it's
really been a long time since I've worked with xp.

Can anyone suggest just how I can get the icon back where it's
supposed to be?

Help will really be appreciated to keep peace in the family. <smile>

Thanks,

Don
