There is really no reason to go to the google search website in firefox. Hit ctrl-k and search to your heart's content, it is a google search.

Try pressing insert a to turn off auto load and see if that fixes the problem.
  Hope this helps.

Subject: Using Google search Box with Firefox

I am trying to use Firefox as my Internet Explorer has stopped
working and I can't find a way to repair or reload it. When I try to
go to the Google search site and enter a search target, Firefox keeps
going back into browse mode. I think there was something in Internet
Explorer that allowed me to turn off "immediate mode" or something
like that, but I see nothing similar in Firefox. Anyone have a suggestion?
