Hi Liz, It's not like I've gone out and investigated all of these, but dropbox doesn't make you use their backup software. they give you software, and 2gb of free space, and the software makes it look just like another drive on your system. if you like, you can just copy the files you want to backup to it. or of course, you could get some backup software you find accessible, and use it to backup to the dropbox.
go to http://dropbox.com to download the free software to try it with the 2gb of free space. it puts an icon in your systray, and you can use this icon (by right clicking it) to open the dropbox "drive" and files. I really like it because I move between several pcs, all of which have access to the same dropbox, so I can easily move files between them this way. For backing up a lot of data to go off site, I'd use some raid disks, where you can just pull one out, and pop another one in to be made a mirror again, and take the disk with all the info off site myself. hth, Chip -----Original Message----- From: Liz Hare [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, December 26, 2010 11:50 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Accessible offsite backup plans? Hello, Has anyone successfully used an offsite-backup plan? I'm looking for recommendations of ones with accessible software utilities, since they seem to require you to download their software.
