if useing vista i found the sound setting others have been talking about.
see if xp has this too.
look in the sounds in control panel.
 then to playback device. and realtec speakers (or what ever is being used as 
the speakers) then tab to properties. tab to the control tab and to 
enhancements and make sure  that sound effects is unchecked. this reduced much 
of the speech delays when typeing and arrowing through text.
