Hi:
I have two laptops at home and I solved the problem by using external
fullsized qwerty keyboards. In one case, I have a wireless keyboard
which communicates with a receiver that connects to one of my USB
ports and in the other case, I have a keyboard from an old desktop
computer, it has a DIN connection but I use a DIN to USB converter to
connect it to a USB port.
Both of them work great.
