MaPlEr! Have you ever heard about that software_ Or, had a chance of putting
your hands on it? If not, I'd suggest you give it a try. It has the abillity of
cross-fading, and you can build, edit and rearrange your playlists. It even has
the chance of saving seperate volume, Equalizer, speed and pitch, for each
track in the playlist. That means, you can make track 1 play at normal speed,
with normal bass; Track 2 play with no bass, full volume, and speed +25%; track
3 play normal speed, but with pitch minus 10% - and so forth. You even have
features like fast-forward and rewind with cueing; like on the good old
cassette tape recorders.
MaPlEr is totally accessible, since it is programmed for, and by, blind people.
The only thing it does not offer, in your list of requests, are the sound
effects. Yet, it definately would be worth giving it a try. You find it here:
http://mar-dy.com/MaPlEr/MaPlEr.php
MaPlEr does all of this on the fly. That means, whenever you hit a key, there
the adjustment is done. If you want to save your mixed work, and have the
ability of cutting/pasting and so forth, I'd suggest GoldWave. This is a bit
more of a beast, 10 times more expensive, and it does take for you to spend a
bit of time in preparing all your stuff, save it, and simply just replay the
whole project. Yet, Goldwae gives you sound effects. The learning curve on
GoldWave is somehow steep; even the more so, since it is not build with blind
people in mind.
A third software, that could come in handy, and that is even freeware, would be
the MP3DirectCut. Do a search on the net, and you'll find the homepage, or drop
me a line, and I'd look it up for you. Again, you'd have to save your project,
and replay it at a later state. Again, it is not build with blind people in
mind, so accessibility will be only 95%. And, again, it does not offer sound
effects. Yet, it is a wonderful small gadget to have in your toolbox, as it
let's you cut and paste pieces of your MP3 files, has the ability of adjusting
volume throughout the MP3 song, etc. After all, I'd say, MP3DirectCut does NOT
replace the two other software; more just makes the extra companion of them.
Hope this was of any help to you, and that you'd find at least some of it to be
useful in your projects.

sorry for not being blunt about my query, but I want to be able to take mp3
tracks that are on my computer and play them like a dj would, that would
include cross fading, sound effects, and control volume, bass, and other
frequencies. I have herd of virtual dj, and Zulu dj, but both have there
inaccessibility. hopefully this helps people in helping me.

Not sure, if I can be of any help. Yet, when you say you want to do some
music mixing, that could mean quite a few things. Could you provide a bit more
details on exactly what you want to do, and maybe if you have special
preferences as to HOW to do the thing. That would be helpful, as there might be
software out there that would happen to meet at least some of your
expectations. But, you know, mixing could be everything from building a
playlist from different albums, and all the way up to 'cut-and-paste' music
into a total new composition. Also, in what format is the music you want to
mix, does it come from a cd, is it mp3 tracks, or do you want to control and
mix instruments. All these informations, might point us in the right direction,
when trying to help you out.
