Yes, the current Kindle is accessible. It still has some issues, not all features and controls are accessible, but the basics for reading books are and there are some issues such as the fact that the text to speech function must be turned on each time one wants to read, no default setting, and you must be careful to make sure each book you purchase is allowed for the text to speech function or you will have to use one of the methods to convert the Kindle book to another format in order for it to be read.

Chris

I am encouraged to know that Kindle books can be read on a PC. Can they be read on the Booksense, Victor Stream, Flex Pocket, etc? The Kindle book reader is not accessible, is it?

Hi Chris,

I read a Kindle book today, and it went fine.

you may already know this, but you can't read these books with window-eyes;
you must use their reader with it's voice. so, you start the reading with
their hotkey of control-r (their hotkeys are described on their web pages
for this program).

window-eyes is only used to read the menus, and the web site; it won't find
or read any text from the book.

hth,

Chip

I downloaded the script and installed it. Downloaded the kindle app and
installed it, got a book and opened it in the app. I can read the app fine,
but can't find any text in the book. It is a gutenberg book, so there
should be lots of lovely free text there? If anyone has a clue, I'd
appreciate it.
