Hi,

This is a very interesting read whether it be old or no.

I happen to agree with the author of said article.

I'm all for promoting and using products that are as mainstream as possible
rather than just sitting in the box and waiting for the adaptive tech
companies to knock something together and charge us an unbelievable price
for it.

I've said this countless times, but with the amount of mobile devices there
are out there on the market mainstream, why build a new one from the ground
up when you can just develop a screen reader that works on said platform?

Apple with their voice over built in, that's seriously going to have affects
on the adaptive tech industry in the long run. Also what about the kapseys
kapten and now kapten plus? I've just got one of these to replace my way
finer access but the point is that it's far far cheaper than any of the
adaptive tech companies out there. Ok we'll see what it does when I get it I
may not even like it but the point is that it's there and people should be
exploring these possibilities.

The author asked the question of why we are complacent, I think I have the
answer. Basically I think it's just people who get these products anyway
regardless of their limitations they seem to have endless support for these
devices saying it's the only thing that they can use because they can't see
an that also it's what the government will pay for. This I also think is the
problem, the various agencies just won't look around they'll take these
devices anyway.

Subject: An AccessWorld Reader Shares his Discontent with the Reliability of
Braille Notetakers - AccessWorldR - February 2011

My apologies if this has already made the list, its an interesting read and
its something that GW Micro, Freedom Science Fiction, Human Ware and other
manufacturers of note taking devices for the blind should be pressured into
taking seriously, that is the reliability and functionality of their
expensive line of product compared to that which the sighted world seems to
have access to at a far cheaper price, read at
