I experienced a lot of that until I turned off completely the Windows Update stuff. Eset's Nod32 does a nice job of letting me know when those updates are available without being intrusive.

There are no error messages so I can't help pinpoint the problem. Window-Eyes 7.2 and 7.5 halts speaking very often, even while just reading a Word 2010 doc. Some times the speech returns after a few seconds or a minuite or so. Other times, I must close the laptop lid to enter Sleep Mode, reopen the lid and hope speech will resume. Some times it does not, and I must power off.
