No, there is an option to store message on server as well as local computer and both. The setting is in...wait let me check before I tell you the wrong thing. Ah, found it, go to tools, account settings, then for your respective mail account you'll want to look in the tree view for the heading, syncronization/storage. Tab twice and you'll see the radio buttons to change the storage of messages.
