Chris, if you restart Window-Eyes from a crash or from a situation where things didn't get shut down properly you might see this. If you do, close Window-Eyes and restart it and things will be fine with the desktop icons. We have this marked down for further investigation.

Many thanks.

Hey folks

I'm really liking the new wineyes 7.5, it's working beautifully.
Sometimes, though, I'm running into a situation where for whatever
reason, the windows desktop won't read after a while of the computer
being on. The desktop icons read when the computer first boots, and all
is well, but if I leave it on for a really long time, or if I have to
kill wineyes and restart it, the desktop icons won't read. When this
happens, i'll press windows m to go to the desktop, and wineyes will
say, desk top, no selected item list view. If I arrow around, it doesn't
speak the label of the icon, accept sometimes i can get an indication of
what icon i'm on because it'll say something like, location winamp
c\program files\x86\winamp. So I can kind of get an idea of where I am.
Currently the only way I know of to get things back to normal is to
restart.

I even tried making sure the theme was set to something like windows 7
basic. and like I say it works for a while but all of a sudden, it'll
just stop reading. Any ideas would be helpful!
