Hi, it sounds like you might have the preview pane turned on. Press
alt-v, then arrow down to layout, press enter and then arrow down to
preview pane, if it shows checked, press enter to uncheck it and turn it
off. When you open Thunderbird, press shift-tab to place focus the right
way since this is an issue with Thunderbird and focus.
