Hi, I'm not sure what the problem is. For me, Browse mode stays on during reading different messages. If you are in the list of messages before you open one, you will want the thread open, otherwise you might open all messages of that thread at the same time. If you do this, control-w will close each one and eventually return you to the list of messages. If you start off with one open message and delete it, the next one opens in the same window and Browse mode stays on.
