Yes, I know exactly why that is. If you are running Windows 7 and if you'll go to the control panel/sound and then to recording tab and then to the listen tab and check the listen checkbox you will hear what's coming in on the line in. be aware of latency though.. There are warnings about latency on the aforementioned tab. It has nothing to do with the sound card. It's a normal thing recording engineers and enthusiast have to contend with without separate monitoring systems.

The one problem I have with it is i cannot figure out how to use the line-in feature -- that is, plugging in a cassette recorder into the sound card and getting it to let me record from a cassette recorder or other source and hear the audio over the sound card.
