Hi. I have a very similar thing happen to me too, and I really don't know exactly what causes it. When you shut down window-eyes so your sighted friend can use the computer, what might help you is to press control back slash to shut it down from there. This seems incredibly obvious, but I also have the kill wineyes script installed and got really used to using that when i needed to. I noticed a very similar problem and another list member recommended that I close window-eyes from the control pannel, instead of using the kill wineyes script. For whatever reason if you use it, and then re-launch window-eyes, none of the desktop icons will read. you can arrow around and you may get a little feedback, butnot a lot. So, that's how i fixed that little problem. You can still use kill wineyes, but to get your desktop icons to read, you'll have to first use kill wineyes, and when re-launch it. when wineyes comes back again, hit control back slash and when the control pannel comes up, press alt f4 and you'll be prompted if you want to shut down window-eyes, answer yes. Then wait a few seconds and re-launch it once again. It sounds convoluted, but that's what fixed it for me.

Subject: Strange message from WE

Hi list,

I have quite a number of icons on my desktop. My sighted friend also uses
my computer - so she quits WE to work on it. When I put WE back on and go
to my desktop WE says "Desktop, no selected items list view." When I, for
example, press M to go to Microsoft Word, WE does not say that I'm on word.
It is as if the desktop is not selected. I tried everything to maximize the
desktop but nothing works. I have to reboot my computer.

Regards
